The Best Thing I Ate This Week: Brisket Sausage & Hanger Steak Hash
And even some... black beans and sushi rice?
Brisket Sausage at Biscayne Bay Brewing
Brewery food isn’t ever really something I get all that excited about. I mean, sure, who doesn’t love a pretzel the size of your torso with all of August’s carbs on one plate. But beyond that, I’m rarely ever at a brewery for more than the beer. Then Biscayne Bay Brewing announced they were adding a barbecue menu for summer, and all that changed. This special sausage is stuffed with smoked brisket, giving it more smoke and pepper flavors than the usual brewery brat. It’s more like a spicier, greasier take on beef brisket than a sausage, and when served with peppers feels like the perfect summer food to pair with a Tropical Bay IPA. – MM

Hanger Steak Hash at Foxy Brown
I swear I eat more than just breakfast food, but the hangover gods (and Fort Lauderdale servers) steered me toward the hanger steak hash at Foxy Brown, and I’m glad they did. It’s got two eggs, caramelized onions, shredded potatoes, leeks, and a chimichurri hollandaise that ties it all together with just the right amount of tang and richness. Somehow hearty and still bright, it’s the kind of dish that makes you want to go back the next day — even if you’re not hungover. — OF

Black Beans with Sushi Rice at Sushi Bichi
At Miami’s most-versatile (yep, the menu is loaded with surprises), humble-yet-chic Japanese spot in North Beach is an ocean-front restaurant that’s frequented by locals in-the-know. This past week, I met a girlfriend who ordered their grilled steak. Aside from the well-cooked piece of meat (insane quality), the side order of black beans and rice somehow became worthy of ‘The Best Thing I Ate This Week.’ Having paired the beans with a bowl of sushi rice rather than a simple white steamed bowl took my breath away. — EMN
