There's Only One Tasting Menu In Miami I Trust. This Is It
Unlike the Marlins, there's not a weak spot in this lineup
Ghee, in its simplest, Yelp-ese is an Indian restaurant. But calling it that would be like calling E11even a late-night cocktail lounge. It’s the creation of Chef Niven Patel, who bases much of the menu on what he’s growing at his Homestead farm. And while you’ll see the Indian-American classics like Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer on the menu, Ghee truly excels in the stuff you probably haven’t seen.
Why is Ghee different than every other Indian restaurant I’ve been to?
Because it has things on the menu you’ve either never seen before, or never seen like this. Dishes like kerala lamb with coconut milk, and yellowfin tuna bhel are twists Patel puts on lesser-seen Indian dishes using his own ingredients. They’re the spicy, flavorful standouts that might seem unfamiliar at first, but beg for you to branch out. Take it from a picky eater: You’ll be glad you did.
What to eat/drink: While Niven Patel does the classics as well as anyone, for the love of god, don’t get the chicken tikka masala. It’s great, but it’s like ordering fish sticks at Nobu. Branch out and explore the vegetable samosa chaat, served with sweet yogurt and chutneys. Or the Hakka noodles with grilled lamb, which offer a sprinkle of Middle Eastern flavors. The seasonal vegetable curry is always packed with fresh veggies, too, and showcases what Patel can do with stuff from his far.
Don’t miss: The tasting menu. It’s a downright bargain at $65, and gets you half a dozen street snacks, a sampling of five entrees, with two desserts thrown in at the end.
Perfect for: Dates with someone who likes to explore new food, or dinner with several friends who are equally open-minded.
Expect to pay: Order a bottle of Ghee’s rare Indian wine, and two people can be out the door for about $225.
How’s the parking? Easy. The underground parking garage in Downtown Dadeland makes parking a snap. It’s also less than 10 10-minute walk from the Metrorail.
